Overview

The XCMG XC998 is a large-tonnage wheel loader developed on XCMG’s international R&D platform. According to XCMG, it carries forward the proven design and manufacturing technology of the previous generation while being developed for the China Stage Ⅳ non-road emission upgrade and for heavy-duty work identified through market research. XCMG positions it as a high-efficiency heavy-load loader with high performance, high reliability and strong value for money.

XCMG lists it for transport construction, coal yards, rail freight, sanitation, municipal work, stone quarries, coal chemical plants, batching plants and sand-and-gravel operations.

Key Features

XCMG groups the XC998’s selling points into four areas.

Efficiency

  • Cummins X12 engine with large torque and power reserves, plus intelligent independent cooling: a single-row wide-fin radiator with temperature-controlled cooling and reverse-flow dust cleaning improves fuel economy by 3%.
  • Larger working-pump displacement and higher system pressure raise boom lift capacity by 10%; the long wheelbase and wide hinge opening suit heavy-load work.
  • Dual-pump confluence and hydraulic flow-amplified steering route surplus energy to the working system for faster lifting.
  • The implement lever integrates FNR and kick-down functions for one-handed operation; revised bucket shape and linkage raise working efficiency by 5%.
  • ICCO dynamic power cut-off with braking compound control reduces fuel use while improving comfort; the steering angle is increased to 40° for shorter travel paths and faster cycles.
  • Electromagnetic lift limiting and automatic levelling, with bucket capacities available for different materials.

Reliability

  • Four-plate box-structure front frame for impact absorption; wide hinge opening, long wheelbase and wide track for stability.
  • Dual-circuit independent wet hydraulic brakes that do not affect each other, fully sealed for dust resistance and low maintenance.
  • Three-stage filtration on engine intake and fuel systems; exposed connectors rated above IP65.
  • Acoustic, visual and display warnings on key systems; engine and transmission controllers, central fuse box and hydraulic controller mounted internally against dust and corrosion.
  • A drive-axle housing cooling structure that needs no external auxiliary cooling in high-temperature conditions.

Comfort

  • XC9-series ROPS & FOPS cab meeting CE safety certification, with large-arc double-curved integral glazing giving up to 316.5° visibility.
  • Silicone-oil shock absorbers with a dual-limit system, noise at the operator’s ear of no more than 76 dB, and CE-compliant access systems.
  • Touch-type CAN membrane controls with a CAN-bus instrument cluster and ergonomically placed controls.

Serviceability

  • Fully opening rear-tilting hood gives one-stop ground-level access to filters and key components.
  • Single-layer wide-pitch cooling package with a swing-out air-conditioning condenser and a reversible cooling fan for cleaning.
  • Centralised pressure-test and drain points, plus an intelligent data terminal for machine status and maintenance tracking.

XCMG also lists standard equipment including a reversing camera, centralised lubrication, intelligent temperature-controlled independent cooling and a roll-over protective cab.
