Overview

The XCMG XC968-HEV is a hybrid (series range-extender) wheel loader from XCMG’s new-energy XC968 family. A self-developed integrated engine-generator “range extender” works with dual travel motors and an LFP power battery: the engine runs near its most efficient range regardless of load, while the electric drive delivers full torque at low speed for digging and loading.

Compared with a conventional diesel loader, XCMG highlights smoother output, lower fuel consumption, no exhaust aftertreatment urea and simplified maintenance — well suited to continuous multi-shift loading where pure-electric charging logistics are impractical.

Rated power270 kW
Operating weight19,000 ± 300 kg
Dump height3,420 mm
Dump reach1,150 mm

Additional Published Parameters (Other Sources)

The following figures come from industry spec sheets (d1cm and 21-sun) rather than the XCMG China page; where they overlap, the official values above take precedence and differences are noted.

ParameterValue
Bucket capacity2.5–6 m³
Max. breakout force185 ± 5 kN
Battery32 kWh or 49.55 kWh LFP power-type
Instantaneous battery power256 kW / 272 kW

Note: 21-sun lists the rated power as 280 kW against the official 270 kW; one industry source lists the operating weight as 19,300 ± 300 kg against the official 19,000 ± 300 kg. The official figures are used here and the differences have not been merged.

Key Features

XCMG groups the XC968-HEV’s selling points into six areas.

Power System

  • Range extender: self-developed China-Stage-IV integrated engine-generator power pack; inline four-stroke engine coupled with a generator, always operating near peak efficiency for smooth output, low fuel consumption and low emissions — no urea aftertreatment needed.
  • Full elastic suspension of the power pack keeps engine speed independent of external load, reducing vibration and resonance fatigue.
  • Travel motors: upgraded dual-motor integrated travel drive with high torque and fast response; the motors are mounted integrally on the rear frame, reducing high-voltage cabling and hydraulic lines across the articulation joint, with protective plates underneath.
  • FNR direction switching with stepless speed control driven by the throttle input.
  • Axles: XCMG-built heavy-duty axles with a strengthened housing (10% higher load and bending capacity), four-planet-wheel hubs, 6-tonne-class front axle and three-section heavy-duty drive shafts.
  • Cooling: integrated electrically driven multi-module radiator; each fan module is controlled independently by the cooling demand of the components it serves.

Hydraulics

  • Dual-pump confluence fixed-displacement system with full pilot control of steering and implements for precise, light operation.
  • Independently motor-driven hydraulics: pump speed follows the joystick input, supplying flow on demand to cut relief losses.
  • FNR joystick with a one-touch boost button for hydraulic-motor speed and faster work cycles; flow-amplified steering.

Electrical System

  • 32 kWh or 49.55 kWh lithium iron phosphate power-type battery delivering 256 kW / 272 kW instantaneous power for heavy-duty cycles.
  • Single-gun fast charging port; BMS-controlled battery thermal management.
  • LCD touch screen showing state of charge, fuel level, coolant temperature and engine speed, plus motor/controller/battery temperatures; reversing camera, air-conditioning and drive-mode switches integrated into the screen.
  • Fully sealed connectors and an integrated enclosed fuse box.

Cab

  • Pressurised cab, spacious with wide visibility; high-performance dual-rail suspension seat and multi-adjustable steering column.
  • Follower-type control console, air conditioning, radio, storage, cup holder and cool box; noise, dust and heat insulation throughout.

Frame

  • Finite-element-optimised structures with reduced stress concentration; rigid front frame giving the boom and cylinders a solid mount; heavy-duty front and rear frames with thick steel plate and reinforced load-bearing zones.

Working Equipment & Serviceability

  • Bucket wear areas in wear-resistant steel; pivot pins lubricated from the flange (no drillings) for higher pin strength.
  • Attachments available: enlarged bucket, high-dump configuration, clamp, side-dump bucket and more.
  • Rear-tilting hood opens to 65° with a powered lift switch, fully exposing the range extender, high-voltage box and water-cooling unit for one-stop service access.

Applications

Continuous loading and material handling where running cost and uptime matter: stockyards, aggregates, municipal work and multi-shift operations — particularly where diesel-independent electric drive is preferred but full battery-charging logistics are impractical.
